Bonawe Granite – MaCaigs Tower

Built of Bonawe granite taken from local quarries, the McCaigs Tower was built in 1897 by local banker John Stuart McCraig to provide work for local stonemasons over the winter months as well as to be a lasting monument to the McCaig family. The granite originated from Bonawe, Loch Etive, just a few miles from Oban. The texture of the granite is magnificant as it leaches it’s minerals.
